Effective dust control in mining means substantial cost savings
Scrapetec specialists work continuously on solutions for addressing specific challenges at conveyor system transfer points in industries where dust and material spillage are significant concerns. This encompasses sectors such as mining and quarrying. The risk of explosions caused by dust emissions on conveyor belts is an ongoing problem that engineers around the world are trying to prevent. ScrapeTec experts developed a new dust control system about five years ago, that is proving to be highly effective – not only for preventing dust formation and material spill, but also to minimise the risk of explosion at critical sections along the conveyor route and transfer points and for more efficient belt-cleaning. ScrapeTec products – which are engineered in Germany to pristine quality and environmental standards – are proving to offer even greater operational cost savings in materials handling, than anticipated at the launch of the range. Apart from the benefit of cost savings, DustScrape and AirScrape dust suppression systems are highly effective in minimising exposure of workers to environmental pollution, which is a major problem caused by fugitive dust in dry bulk handling. Although conventional dust

Problem solving in cement production: dust and spills
ScrapeTec work closely with customers in various industries to address dust emissions, material spillage, conveyor belt damage, preventing production downtime, expensive repairs, and hazardous accidents, as seen in a recent project where a cement industry. In a recent project, a cement production plant needed assistance with excessive dust emissions during the handling of clinker, sand and gravel, that were causing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) issues. In addition, the operator faced the problems of costly material spillage and the need for ongoing conveyor belt repairs. A comprehensive site inspection revealed that a standard chute sealing system was used in conjunction with a basic clamping system positioned outside the chute. The existing skirting system and lack of inner skirting failed to contain excessive dust emission and material spillage at the transfer points. High dust levels resulted in poor visibility of the 70-metre-long conveyor tunnel, which negatively affected the maintenance team’s ability to monitor efficiencies during the ship unloading process and to prevent bottlenecks in the production process. “Apart from concerns about safety and environmental hazards, management needed to find
