Screening Machines for Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling
As the world gravitates towards sustainable solutions, the recycling of lithium-ion batteries has emerged as a crucial element in our green future. Central to this process is the handling of ’black mass,’ a complex substance that presents unique challenges in recycling and especially screening. Understanding Black Mass Screening Black mass, primarily composed of valuable metals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, also contains graphite, which complicates the recycling process. Screening is essential at different stages, such as removing larger metal foils during black mass creation and purifying black mass by removing materials like aluminum and copper. The primary challenge arises from the large fraction of fine graphite particles in black mass, which can be as small as 10 µm. The nature of fine graphite as a sticky, greasy material complicates the process. It tends to adhere to other particles, making separation difficult. Additionally, graphite’s propensity to clog meshes and form agglomerates that move as cakes across screens reduces screening efficiency. Traditional screening methods often struggle

Rotary Paddle Level Switch for overfill and dry run protection
The terms ‘functional safety’ and ‘safety integrity level (SIL)’ have occurred more frequently since the publication of the international standard IEC 61508/IEC61511. SIL2 for rotating paddle series Particularly in systems with hazard-causing processes, such as in chemical plants, the consideration of functional safety has become indispensable. On this basis safety-related practices, design principles and error considerations must be met in order to minimize the risk of a dangerous failure. Risk mitigation in accordance with SIL2 The UWT engineers focused on this topic and designed the rotating paddle switch Rotonivo® RN 6000 series according to the normative requirements of functional safety to ensure safety functions in a risk mitigation in accordance with SIL2. Typical safety functions are overfill and dry run protection. Full, demand or empty Depending on the requirements, the Rotonivo® rotary paddle switch is used as a full, demand or empty detector in storage silos or process vessels and is suitable for use in almost all solids. With its simple electromechanical measuring principle it can also be adapted for extreme

Why Moisture Measurement is Crucial in Powder & Bulk Solids Operations Moisture is important in any manufacturing process, but when it comes to powder & bulk solid processing, excess moisture can ruin products. By Adrian Fordham, MoistTech Corp. Moisture is important in any manufacturing process, but when it comes to powder & bulk solid processing, excess moisture can ruin products. And what is worse than a wasted effort? Economical losses and decreased productivity. With continuous online moisture measurement, manufacturing/processing plants will find huge money savings. From savings in transportation due to weight of excess moisture, to savings in water usage for dust suppression and clean-up, plants also reduce the amount of wear and tear on equipment due to the dust and ash build-up and prevent blockages on the conveyor resulting in shutting down the boiler. Benefits of moisture measurement and control * Reduce dryer usage and energy costs * Properly

Partnership between NETZSCH and ProteinDistillery Innovative Partnership between NETZSCH and ProteinDistillery paves the way for revolutionary protein production
Partnership between NETZSCH and ProteinDistillery
Innovative Partnership between NETZSCH and ProteinDistillery paves the way for revolutionary protein production NETZSCH Grinding & Dispersing, a global leader in dry and wet materials processing, and ProteinDistillery, a pioneer in the innovative production of functional protein ingredients, announce their long-term cooperation. This partnership marks a significant step in the development of sustainable and efficient protein sources for use in the food industry. In contrast to conventional, plant-based methods of protein extraction, which are often characterized by inherent taste, suboptimal functional properties such as texture formation and limited digestibility, ProteinDistillery’s approach offers significant advantages. The microorganism-derived functional protein, Prew:tein, is characterized by neutral taste and improved texture qualities. This reduces the need for artificial additives and flavorings that are normally required to modify the taste and texture of plant-based proteins. Key benefits: Reduction in product development costs as well as higher consumer acceptance

Case study: no-entry silo cleaning for soybean storage operator
A leading company in the food industry from Europe presented our BUCHEN-ICS team from Rotterdam with a persistent challenge in their soybean storage facility in South Holland. 1500 m³ of beans stuck Over the past few years, the operation has been struggling with continuous blockage issues in its soybean silo, where approximately 1500 m³ of beans remained immobile despite numerous attempts at solutions. This blockade significantly affected operational processes and had a negative impact on productivity and profitability. When our team took on this project, it was estimated that the silo had reached a blockage level of 100% over several years. Our experts recognized the urgency and complexity of the challenge and were determined to find a solution using the best possible method. The technologies BinDrill and Cardox Over several shifts, the BinDrill technology was used to carefully drill through the compressed soybeans from the top of the silo. This process aimed to create passages within the blockade and loosen the material. Now we employed the powerful Cardox system. This technology rapidly releases liquid carbon dioxide (CO2), breaking

Lödige Maschinenbau at Anuga FoodTec 2024
At Anuga FoodTec Lödige Maschinenbau will be demonstrating, how Ploughshare® and CoriMix® Mixers can be used in in the production of meat substitutes. Vegan meat alternatives made from protein sources such as cereals or pulses require process engineering solutions that enable high throughputs and homogeneous component mixing. As Gebrüder Lödige Maschinenbau GmbH will be demonstrating at this year’s Anuga FoodTec (Stand 10.1 / G091), Ploughshare® and CoriMix® Mixers can meet this requirement at several points in the process chain. The industrial production process for meat substitutes involves a number of stages, from the preparation of protein sources into a protein concentrate or isolate and texturised vegetable proteins: (TVP) through to the finished meat equivalent. Mixing dry additives before extrusion as well as liquids into the extruded TVP play a key role in the quality of the end product. The manufacturing process can generally be carried out continuously or in batch operation. It is also possible to use a combination of both processes in a quasi-continuous operation. The ideal operating mode depends

Masterflex Group once again recognized as a TOP Innovator
We have defended our title and are once again a TOP innovator Innovation processes are an integral part of our company philosophy - we have now been recognized as one of the most innovative SMEs in Germany in the TOP 100 innovation competition. Top 100 is about the question of how important the goal of innovation is in the company. Do routines and habits dominate or is the company able to question the status quo, think creatively and in new ways and successfully assert itself on the market? We were able to convince the jury with our innovative qualities again this year (and already for the 4th time).

LOGiQ combines yard management and weighing technology automatically
Schenck Process, a leading specialist for process-critical bulk materials applications, offers the LOGiQ yard management system, a cloud-based software solution that combines efficient truck loading operations with automated weighing of bulk materials. LOGiQ is a proven system in the cement and steel industry. However, the solution is also suitable for yard management in other segments of industrial production. LOGiQ handles all logistical steps from the entry of an authorized truck onto the company premises to the exit in a seamless process. The software system monitors and controls access, supports weighing processes, ensures correct loading and records all relevant data without delays. All information is integrated into the ERP system, for example SAP, to provide up-to-date sales and administrative data. Access is controlled via LOGiQ registration terminals, which are intuitive to use and available in several languages on request. The truck drivers operate these terminals themselves and record their weighing processes and all steps during loading and unloading. The processes run automatically without the need for manual intervention by staff: ”zero-touch fulfillment”. This reduces the susceptibility to errors
