4B has introduced the Encoder-Flex 1024, designed to monitor the position of rack and pinion gates, as well as shaft speed and angular position of distributors. 4B Group has introduced the Encoder-Flex 1024, designed to monitor the position of rack and pinion gates, as well as shaft speed and angular position of distributors. The new, ATEX-approved Encoder-Flex 1024 is changing the way slide gates are monitored. This compact rotary shaft encoder uses advanced technology to deliver a precise position from 0 to 100%. With a compact, sleek design, the Encoder-Flex 1024 removes the bulkiness associated with traditional shaft encoders and adds the benefit of easy calibration. There is no need to open up the unit; simply apply an external magnet briefly to calibrate. Providing even more flexibility, resolution can be programmed for 1 to 1024 pulses per rotation. All electronics on the Encoder-Flex 1024 are housed in a sealed stainless steel enclosure and are encapsulated in epoxy, protecting the device from moisture and the elements and providing maximum reliability in the field. Sinfimasa presents a solution for dosing very fine, explosive bulk solids, in this case active ingredients of medicines. In a practical situation, dosing of 300 litres per hour of micronised bulk product (active ingredients of medicines) was required. As the substance was explosive, a machine with ATEX GAS 1 certification was provided. Sinfimasa designed a stainless steel 316 tube screw feeder, suitable for ATEX zone 1 (2G). A screw of 70 mm and a tube of 80 mm were chosen, so that there is a large clearance. The screw is driven by a 0.75 kW ATEX certified motor gearbox. All parts that may come into contact with the product, such as seals, plastics, grease, etc., are FDA-compliant thanks to the hygienic, easy-to-clean design. The product itself is a sticky product, so the tube is manufactured with a glossy polished (g220) inner surface and an industrial satin matt outer surface. In accordance with directive 2014/34/EU, equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres must be designed with a view to integrating explosion protection. These

In regard to electronic safety standards, there are two characteristics that are often referred to in manufacturing: Intrinsically safe and explosion-proof. Sometimes the term “explosion proof” is also used to describe the environment of operations and both means of protection, environment or equipment, are acceptable for safe manufacturing processes. Intrinsically Safe Intrinsically safety equipment combats hazards because it is incapable of causing sparks or combustion. This means that intrinsically safe equipment must limit electrical current, voltage and heat. This reduces the risk of explosion in hazardous and combustible environments such as distilleries, chemical plants, fuel refineries or textile manufacturers.
