Notes on the evaluation and avoidance of electrostatic charges Electrostatic charges can occur when two surfaces are rapidly separated, whereby at least one surface must be an insulator. Critical processes, for example, are pneumatic conveyors, Big Bag filling stations, or even silos with the danger of a conical pile discharge. In order to avoid electrostatic discharges at such FIBC filling stations, it is necessary to assess the bulk material and to select the proper FIBC Type. Type C Big Bag has conductive filaments, which allows grounding for safe filling / emptying. Such grounding can be carried out by means of a cable and clamp. Another option is the grounding by means of a grounding monitoring system such as FARADO fibc. An approval function enables the Big Bag Type C to only be filled if the grounding is correctly established. Explosion Isolation is absolutely necessary for a comprehensive safety concept. If a dust explosion occurs in one equipement, this also enhances the risk of flames and pressure propagation to other parts of the plant. Pre-compression and flame jet ignition exacerbate the explosion severity in interconnected vessels. The result is a series of secondary explosions that may cause even more catastrophic damage. An explosion isolation system prevents deflagrations from propagating and thus minimises the effects of an explosion. Adjoining plant components are optimally protected. REMBE product novelties: Q-Ball The principal of flameless venting is a REMBE invention from the 1980s, which has changed the world of Explosion Safety like no other. It all started with the Q-Rohr, and is now continued with the Q-Ball. In addition to the requirement that neither flames nor pressure escape from the protection system, flameless venting devices should also be evaluated in terms of their venting efficiency and weight. Because: Low efficiencies mean that more / bigger venting areas and associated protection systems are required. A too heavy weight requires conversions to the vessel in order to ensure its stability. The Q-Ball, which is primarily designed for elevators and screens, uses the principle of the parallel contour relief developed by Roland Bunse. Thanks to the innovative design, the weight of the Q-Ball is very low.
