MLA1000 stationary, continous measurement system

constantly measurement of inline electric conductivity of flowing light oils

Installed directly in pipelines, the new MLA1000 constantly measures inline the electric conductivity and the temperature of flowing light oils, for example Jet A-1 kerosene, and is consequently able to control continuously the dosing of additives.
“Utilising the MLA1000 enhances significantly the safety in handling aviation fuel,” declared MBA Instruments CEO Hans-Heinrich Westphal, who added “At high flow speeds and simultaneous low conductivity for example kerosene can be electrostatically charged and ignite.” To prevent this, the conductivity is increased by dosing additives to dissipate the electrostatic charge to the tank or pipeline wall. “Until now conductivity has been measured at longer intervals using either individual laboratory samples or our own hand-held MLA900 device. “The dosed volumes of the required additives were often estimated,” explained Hans-Heinrich Westphal. “Regularly we received enquiries from airports and operators of tank storage and pipeline facilities asking for a continuous conductivity measurement solution. Using our MLA900 hand-held device as a starting point, we consequently developed the new MLA1000 continuous operating conductivity measuring device.”
Metering: “As much as necessary and as little as possible.”
Both the sensor and the electronics had to be adapted to meet the new continuous measuring requirements.
“By continuously controling the dosing of additive, the conductivity of a product can be precisely adjusted. This ensures that the additive concentration required in terms of safety is maintained without exceeding the stipulated conductivity threshold for optimal operation of turbine jet engines.” As such, the additive dosing can be summarized by the phrase “as much as necessary and as little as possible.”
