The faculty for Process and System Technology of the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (OVGU) has awarded an honorary doctorate to Reinhard Böber, Managing Director of Glatt Ingenieurtechnik Weimar, for his contributions to the development and industrial implementation of fluid bed technology on 25/11/2011. An honorary doctorate is considered the highest award granted by the university to merited external personalities.
Mr. Dipl. Ing. Reinhard Böber has earned special personal merits of an ideational nature in the development of scientific principles of fluid bed technology, especially with the realisation of new methods, their economic implementation in a number of industrial sectors with a special emphasis on the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and the development and promotion of aspiring scientific talent, explains the statement.
As director of a company with a focus on engineering developments, he maintained close scientific contacts for more than 30 years with the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg and provided a large number of students and interns of this scientific institution with the opportunity of deepening their knowledge through theoretic dissertations and practical activities in the company he headed. He was significantly involved in the promotion of young academics by granting stipends and educational agreements; as a result, some of the students thus trained were able to find permanent employment at the company directly after completing their studies.
This collaboration resulted in a number of scientific dissertations and new apparatus solutions that could be protected by a remarkable number of patents in which Mr. Böber was personally involved.
The performance capability of a series of apparatus solutions, developed under the management of Mr. Reinhard Böber, some of them together with the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg through co-operation lasting many years, has thus far been unparalleled by any competitor. This includes, for example, the model series ProCell, which successfully implemented the spouted bed technology, developed jointly with the university, into practice as well as the AGT model series, successful for many years on the international market, and that also originated from the collaboration with the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, the GF model series, and a large number of innovative solutions that are protected worldwide by more than 100 patent applications.
