In pipelines with protective liners (e.g. in pneumatic systems for foundry sand), narrow radii in bends have been a problem so far. In order to keep wear at a minimum or to assemble liners here, installation of impact absorbers became necessary, and these impact absorbers were bulky and had to be replaced at high cost quite frequently. They interrupt the even pipe cross section, causing high energy consumption, turbulences and caking. The extremely high exposure to load of the conveyed material leads to a limitation in its recycling ability.
CeramTec-ETEC has developed the “compact bend” which even in case of extremely narrow radiuses is able to adapt its lining to the evenly shaped cross section of the complete system. CeramTec-ETEC’s lining material ALOTEC® has a hardness which is almost comparable to a diamond’s, and this is why it offers a very high wear resistance. In this way, the service life of these bends can be increased by several times. The size of the pipeline cross section can be maintained throughout the whole system, and in this way it is possible to reduce the overall air pressure, material conveying is not obstructed, and turbulences and caking can be avoided.
Energy consumption for these applications is considerably reduced, and according to evaluations made by users in the foundry sector, about 50% of energy can be saved. Since the conveyed material is exposed to lower amounts of load, recyclability is increased and thus, multiple use is possible.
