°Celsius designed and delivered a high-temperature cooler tot the company CMI NESA from Belgium. This screw-heat-exchanger was fitted as a cooler at a production plant for magnesium oxide in Saudi-Arabia, which was designed and built completely by CMI NESA.
The cooler is placed directly under the outlet of a multiple hearth furnace and it cools 5500 kg/hour Calcined Caustic Magnesia from 900 °C to 300 °C. Due to the abrasive nature of the product, the cooling screws are welded on with an abrasion-resistant material.
Since the installation is situated in the Saudi desert, the cooling water that flows through the cooling screw is cooled in a large cooling tower. However, due to the extreme climatologic circumstances, the temperature of the cooling water could rise to 50 °C!
CMI Nesa is a business unit of Cockerill, Maintenace & Ingénierie, specializing in thermal processes and is a worldwide supplier of multiple hearth furnaces, fluidized bed furnaces, rotary kilns and shaft kilns.
